One of the purchases I had planned to make with the hoped for windfall from selling my Harley was a new super big screen, super high resolution iMac. I'm reconsidering that plan now that Oculus founder, Palmer Luckey, has announced that the Oculus headset won't be Mac compatible. Below, a pic of the Oculus headset and Asus Oculus compatible computer.
The news couldn't be worse for people who want to get into VR and love iMacs. Luckey even makes funs of Apple computers poor performance. Since that new iMac would cost around $2,300, I might need to make a new plan.
So what do I need to be able to plug in the Oculus headset and start playing VR games?
Here's a link to the Oculus site that lists the specs needed to get in the game. The Dell XPS 8900 Desktop, which is Oculus compatible will run about $1,000 and the Oculus headset is set to sell for about $700.
The good news is that I can move to a VR compatible platform for less than a high end iMac costs. The bad news is that I'd be back in a Windows environment.
Already got an offer on the Harley, but it's way below what I want, so I've got some time to think things over.
