My life is so good right now that I'm watching my back. Because, as the Grateful Dead say:
When life looks like Easy Street
There is danger at your door
I'm not rich in terms of money, but I'm rich with people who love me and I'm rich with time.
The Dire Wolf is always stalking his prey and licking his chops. The good times make us lazy. We tend to drop our guard and imagine that the good stuff will keep rolling in.
Every morning, I'm out of bed at 4 a.m. and the day is mine to do with as I please. My only responsibility is babysitting my granddaughter. Being with her is sheer joy. She's so playful, so outgoing and so cheerful. The only way to successfully relate to an 18 month old is to get down on the floor and behave like an 18 month old... which I do!
My girlfriend, The Karaoke Queen, loves me up on weekends and leaves behind a fridge full of homemade meals. Heat it up, and, voila!
Playing with the Old Dawgz makes me laugh and sing. We're great friends.
So, what's to worry about?
My late wife, Myrna, and I were likewise living it up and enjoying all the good things when the Dire Wolf knocked on our door and collected his dues. In a moment, the good life vanished and she was gone. I know, now, that this is inevitable.
The good times lead inevitably to the bad times and vice versa.
So, what to do? Get it while you can!
Today is all I've got. Everything else is just an illusion, a hope, a dream. I'm gonna milk today for every bit of pleasure I can find. I'll do my yoga, go to the gym, play piano and guitar and take care of my house. Supposed to be a rainy day, but I love rainy days out here in the woods above Woodstock.
Tomorrow may never come. Today, I'm living on Easy Street. Thanks, God!
