Once in a while, it just falls in your lap. While riding the Road King last weekend, I happened across a parking lot full of classic cars and trucks. The owners had been attending a car show. They decided to take a ride through the Catskills, and they stopped for lunch along Route 28 near Phoenicia, New York.
The beauty pictured at the top is a restored 1940 Ford pickup with, of course, a very bright custom paint job. This truck sports a 221 cubic inch V8 that produced 85 horsepower. It’s the sort of truck you’d expect Mr. Natural, the nasty old fart and sage of Robert Crumb’s comics, to drive.
The picture at the left is the vehicle in its original black paint job, obviously beat up from a solid working life.
I’ve been searching high and low on the internet for statistical information about pickup truck production, original sticker prices, etc. Please e-mail me or enter a comment if you know of a site that contains such information.
