I just returned from a family reunion in Illinois. Birthday party for my mom. 87 years old! I also caught the Johnny Winter concert at the Watseka Theatre.
As is my custom, I took a tour of my hometown. Above, a pic of the house where my family lived until I entered high school. When we lived there, the house was surrounded by corn fields. Successive owners have upgraded the joint. The room on the lower left on the first floor used to be a garage.
I’d say about 800 square feet for a family of six. Seemed big when I was six years old.
The road sign says the house is on “Elm Street,” but we always called the street “Cemetery Road” because it terminates east of town in a cemetery.
My dad is buried in that cemetery. God bless you, Dad!
I’ve played with the legendary musicians of our era. I’ve worked at the top levels of law, publishing and pharma. I've lived in Chicago, San Francisco, New York City and Woodstock.
Pretty good for a poor boy who grew up on Cemetery Road.
