I dropped by the Harmony Café last night to listen to the Trial & Error Band. Bassist in the band is my old friend, Kenny Sikula. I’ve played with Ken in a variety of situations, including the Saints & Sinners. Dave Longendyke sings and plays guitar in the band. That’s his picture below.
It’s been a long time since I’ve really listened to a band play almost entirely original music. Trial & Error played a very long set of originals. They made them swing. That’s not easy to do. The audience got into the rhythm and got happy.
Ken punches pretty hard and he drives tempos, which I’ve always liked.
I have so many great men friends. Some of my happiest times in the past few years have been when Ken stops by the house for an informal session over coffee. He definitely follows his own counsel in this life, and why not? That’s Ken playing bass in the picture below.
Terry Hampton on the drums.I liked the band, and I saw a different side of Ken. I thought that the band had a very original style and that it really sold the tunes. All with a very low key, cool delivery. Kevin O'Toole covered lead guitar.
Ken inspired me a bit. As I said, I have many great, interesting men friends. They’re always teaching me new stuff.
