Two straight 60 degree days in New York City! So, I’ve been taking an afternoon walk, usually through Hell’s Kitchen. I walked past this shop on West 45th Street yesterday.
I love the way this retread tire shop makes use of the tiny space available. Sprawl is impossible in Manhattan. Space is just too expensive. So, everything gets stacked up and squeezed to fill every available niche.
Why a retread tire shop in the heart of wealthy Manhattan? All the money goes out for rent? That could be the answer. Also, a parking space in a lot or garage, a necessity in Manhattan, could cost you $500 a month… enough to rent a house in many towns.
Making $100,000 a year and finding yourself just about tapped out by the rent is not uncommon in this Naked City.
