Those damned Old Dawgz! If it ain’t one thing, it’s another. We’ve been playing a medley of Doobie Brothers songs. Long Train Running is such a great, high energy song. Puppy John really belts it out. But it has a blues harp solo in it that somebody has to cover. I haven’t played harp in 20 years, but I took a trip to Sam Ash yesterday and bought a set. Last night, I gave it a shot.
You probably know that Doobie’s song for it’s signature lyric… “Without love, where would you be now.” One of the great lines in the history of rock. Every time I hear or sing that line, I think… “Hell, yes!” Love is what brought us into this world. It’s what we fight over and hunger for. The line is simple but profound.
And that funky guitar strum. Big Joe does it pretty good. I don’t have much to contribute on that end, so I might add a little more to the song with the harp solo and, maybe bang a bit on the tambourine.
Don’t know if I can get that harp solo together by next rehearsal on Wednesday night. YouTube has a bunch of harp tutorials, like this one:
The money from the first gig is already spent. Do you hear me, you damned Old Dawgz! We better get busy with the gigs. I’m already 30 bucks in the hole!
