The news that yet another Illinois governor, Democrat Rod Blagojevich, seems headed for jail… well, that’s no surprise.
As a native Illinoisan, I expect the governor to face indictment. Otto Kerner, Dan Walker and George Ryan all served jail time after serving the people. Remember, Al Capone once ruled Chicago. That didn’t happen without considerable help from Chicago politicians.
The story of the pristine federal investigator riding in to rid the city of corruption isn’t new either. Remember Eliot Ness and the Untouchables? Karma doesn’t change in the Windy City. We’re just going through another cycle of an eternal story. Makes you wonder how Honest Abe emerged from that pig trough.
This morning, the Chicago newspapers are debating Blagojevich’s mental health. The Governor did seem to have a death wish. He continued to use the phone to sell President-elect Obama’s Senate seat, even though he knew that he was under federal investigation.
“Where’s mine?” has long been the motto of Chicago politics.
I already knew this… but, in case you don’t know: President-elect Barack Obama is as dirty as any Chicago pol. Expect the scandals to escalate during his years in office. Obama’s relationships with Rev. Wright, Bill Ayers, Tony Rezko and Blagojevich did not occur in a vacuum.
I can’t tell you exactly how Obama is dirty, or in what way the scandals will play out. He’s at the center of the affirmative action scam that has proven so profitable for political con artists for the past 30 years. The demand that “minority” contractors be allotted government contracts… well, that’s an open invitation to feed at the public trough. Racial quotas made Obama, and racial quotas are what Obama is all about.
Stay tuned. This is going to get really ugly. We’re about to see Chicago machine politics on a national scale.
