The Karaoke Queen and I took in Bolt, the new Disney animated movie, at the AMC theater in the Garden State Plaza in Paramus, NJ on Saturday night. Bolt made me feel like a kid for a couple of hours!
The plot of Bolt is that old standard: “Lassie Come Home,” an I Lost My Dog tear jerker. Bolt, a movie actor dog, is accidently shipped to New York City and struggles to find his way back home to Hollywood. He’s helped out by a cynical cat, stool pigeons and a cute hamster.
On entering the theater, the Queen and I grabbed our 3D glasses and settled in. For the money we also got a cartoon… a hilarious Carstoon, “Tokyo Maters,” literally featuring humanized cars and trucks... developed by Pixar. (If I were a young man, I’d find a way to work for these folks.) Adding a cartoon to the bill was just the right touch. It reminded me of the Saturday matinees I attended as a kid at The Watseka Theater.
I don’t need to summarize the movie. You can find that just about anywhere on the web. Go see the movie in the theater. Don’t wait to see it at home. You will really enjoy the full 3D animation best in the theater. Try to see the movie with a crowd of kids. The kids at our showing cheered and cried and talked to the animated characters throughout the movie.
Making an old fart like me feel like a kid ain’t easy. The burden of burying two wives seldom falls away. But, Bolt did it for me.
