The Woodstock left, in its eagerness to see the U.S. defeated in Iraq, is now turning to its favorite Vietnam era tactic… defaming American soldiers as deliberate murderers.
This tactic, spearheaded by now Sen. John Kerry, at the Winter Soldier hearings in 1971, proved remarkably effective. Kerry slandered his fellow sailors as butchers and war criminals, with a lot of help from purported fellow soldiers. Years later, we learned that many of the soldiers who testified to atrocities never served in the military or Vietnam. They lied. So, for that matter, did Kerry, who habitually embellished both his service record and seemed to take special glee in defaming America soldiers.
Our favorite Peace Mom, Cindy Sheehan, recently recruited one Jesse MacBeth (pictured above) to the cause. MacBeth claimed to be an ex-Marine who had engaged in atrocities in Iraq, atrocities he said were endorsed by the U.S. military command. Fortunately, these days we don’t have to rely on the Marxists, America haters and liars at the Woodstock Times for our information. Michelle Malkin’s weblog reported within days that MacBeth was an imposter who never served in the U.S. Army. For a short time, however, MacBeth was a hero of the anti-war left. The Woodstock left is feverishly searching for soldiers who will slander the U.S military. The purpose, of course, is to undermine morale.
Yes, the left certainly supports the troops, doesn’t it? Get ready for an onslaught of hatred and slander directed against our troops in this paper, as the left tries once again to paint U.S. soldiers as murderers. This slimeball tactic was effective during the Vietnam war. You can expect an endless repeat from the Woodstock Times and its readers, as they pray for the defeat and humiliation of the U.S.
For a sane perspective, read this Mark Steyn column.
UPDATE, June 7, 2006: Michelle Malkin covers the smearing of U.S. troops by the London Times.
